I am a licensed psychologist, clinical neuropsychologist, husband, and father. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and my master's and doctorate in clinical psychology from Palo Alto University in Palo Alto, California. I completed my internship at the Boston VA Healthcare System and a two-year neuropsychology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School.
My work with clients begins with an attempt to understand the impact of early developmental influences and current life stressors that contribute to learned behavior patterns that may be ineffective and influence day-to-day suffering. I believe that our life experiences influence us but do not have to define us or determine how we will function in the world. As an African American male, I understand the systemic obstacles often faced by people from diverse communities. As a husband and father, I understand that women frequently experience biases and obstacles that can be magnified if they identify as a person of color or LGBTQ+. We all have multiple identities, and we must learn to thrive in a world that is often ill-prepared to treat us with the respect and kindness that we deserve. My goal for therapy is to help individuals feel heard and have their experiences validated while reducing emotional pain and improving coping resources. I utilize treatment modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and emotion-focused therapy.
My training has involved working with couples and individuals struggling with stress, relationship conflict, academic difficulty, substance abuse, and anger management concerns. In addition, I have extensive experience treating veterans, the law enforcement community, and medical professionals. In terms of my neuropsychology training, I provide expert guidance to patients with a history of brain injury, neurodevelopmental conditions (i.e., ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, and developmental delays), and other cognitive conditions such as mild cognitive impairment. I also provide individual cognitive rehabilitation and guidance for families supporting a loved one with neurodevelopmental or neurological conditions such as mild cognitive impairment and dementia. In the therapeutic environment, I help clients improve communication skills, increase their ability to develop and maintain healthy romantic relationships and increase positive interactions with coworkers, peers, and family members. I seek to empower my clients to identify life goals and pursue them passionately with a well-organized plan. I currently only see clients virtually (i.e., via video or telephone) and am available for weekday, evening, and weekend sessions.
